The Latest News From the IAA

1600 - 5 May 2010: Airport restrictions projected to lift from 0400 Thursday 6th May 2010

05 May 2010

1600 - Wednesday 5th May 2010: At present all Irish airports with the exception of Shannon, Cork, and Kerry, are restricted due to the presence of dense volcanic ash over Ireland. Shannon, although currently operational, will be restricted from 1730 hours local. Cork and Kerry are operational until midnight, when restrictions will apply.

The IAA anticipates, subject to confirmation at 2030 hours local, lifting restrictions on Irish airports at the following times tomorrow Thursday 6th May 2010:

Dublin airport 0400

Waterford airport 0600

Ireland West (Knock) airport 0600

Donegal airport 0600

Sligo airport 0600

Galway airport 0900

Cork airport 1100

Shannon airport 1300

Kerry airport 1500

The IAA will issue a statement confirming these times at 2030 hours local this evening, following the receipt of updated volcanic ash data.

The IAA appreciates the difficulties facing passengers and airlines at this time. In the interest of passenger and aircraft safety, and to avoid confusion, the IAA bases all of its decisions about airspace restrictions on data provided by the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre and Eurocontrol. Decisions are taken solely on the grounds of safety.

Overflights of Irish airspace between North America and Europe will continue as normal.

Airline passengers should continue to contact their airline websites to establish the up-to-date position on flight schedules.
