Airspace restrictions for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

10 Jul 2012

The airspace changes, heightened security measures and anticipated additional traffic levels during the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games will introduce additional potential risks into the UK Aviation system. Whilst comprehensive steps have been taken to ensure that all GA pilots are aware of the restrictions and arrangements for entering and transiting airspace, NATS would like to  remind any aircraft planning to travel from Ireland to the UK during the period from 14th July to 12th September of the existence of these restrictions.

NATS advise that any VFR aircraft travelling to the UK, before they reach the London FIR boundary, that there are large areas of restricted airspace in the South East of England and that pilots should call London Information immediately on crossing the London FIR boundary and pass their routing details before reaching the coast. NATS Controllers/ FISOs will then be able to confirm that aircraft understand the restrictions and requirements.
