August Traffic Statistics - trend continues to decline

The impact of the global downturn on the aviation industry continued for the month of August. Figures for traffic passing through Irish controlled airspace in August show another month of decline on the same month last year.

  • En route operations (over flights) were down -11.5% on August 2008.
  • North Atlantic communications showed a similar trend, and were down -8.6% on August 2008.
  • Commercial Air traffic movements at the State airports were down on August 2008, as follows, Dublin -17.7%, Shannon -15.5% and Cork -27.6%.

January 2009 to August 2009, showed the following cumulative trends:

  • En route Over flights, down by -8.4%
  • North Atlantic Communications, down by -8%
  • Dublin Commercial Terminal Movements, down by -14.4%
  • Cork Commercial Terminal Movements, down by -26%
  • Combined Commercial  movements for the three State airports were down -15.9%
