Enroute traffic movements increasing - November 2010 flight statistics

The November 2010 total IFR traffic grew by +3.4%, registering 1,299 average daily flights, compared to the -3.3% change in the year to date, while five of Ireland's Top 10 Airport Pairs in November 2010 showed positive growth compared to the same period last year.

Enroute traffic movements in Irish controlled airspace showed a considerable increase of +9.9% in November 2010, compared to comparable traffic figures for November 2009 and North Atlantic Communications flights (Europe /US Flights) also continued the trend of growth at +7.6% in November 2010.

Both enroute overflights and North Atlantic Communications Flights could have seen stronger positive growth for the first eleven months of 2010, if  the eruption of the Icelandic Volcano and subsequent effects had not occurred. However, as it stands, the year to date growth for enroute overflights is +2% and North Atlantic Communications Flights are showing a minor decrease of  -0.7%.

Commercial terminal traffic at the three State airports continues to decline against comparable figures in 2009, however, the rate of decline during 2010 has receded.

1. The traffic growth rates for the three State airports, in the month of November 2010, are as follows:

  • Commercial terminal flights at Dublin were down by -3.6%

  • Commercial terminal flights at Cork were down -8.7%

  • Commercial terminal flights at Shannon were down -20.1%

However, for the eleven month period, January to November 2010, compared to 2009:

  • Commercial terminal flights at Dublin were down -9%

  • Commercial terminal flights at Cork were down -9.1%

  • Commercial terminal flights at Shannon were down -33.6%
