Implementation of Enhanced Terminal Airspace Organisation at Dublin
The attached Aeronautical Information Circular describes the proposed implementation of enhanced terminal airspace procedures in the Dublin CTA. This aims to provide significant advantages to operators including improved economy and efficiency. The plan also includes a new method of handling arrival traffic, known as Point Merge.
Point Merge uses the capability of an aircraft's Flight Management System (FMS) to make the most direct transition to the runway, even in busy periods, The Point Merge system, originally a EUROCONTROL concept, replaces traditional racetrack holding patterns with optimally placed linear segments.
Dublin will be the second airport in Europe to implement this new operation (the first being Oslo), an increasing number of Air Navigation Service Providers across Europe are in the process of developing their own Point Merge systems.
Further details of how Point Merge is operated and the benefits available to the aviation sector as well as to the environment, are given in the accompanying AIC
