The Latest News From the IAA

Irish Airspace restrictions extended to 1800 Monday 19th April 2010

19 Apr 2010

Based on the latest reports from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre London, http://metoffice.com/aviation/vaac/vaacuk_vag.html, the Irish Aviation Authority has extended the closure of Irish airspace to commercial traffic until 1800 Monday 19th April 2010. No commercial passenger flights, including North American traffic, will operate from any Irish airport during this period. Similar types of restrictions are enforced in Northern and Central Europe as well as the UK.

The Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre London, the competent European authority in relation to volcanic ash, projects that the ash cloud is almost stagnant over Europe. Until weather conditions change this pattern, ongoing restrictions will continue.

The IAA continues to engage in analysis and discussions on the situation with various European institutions, including the EU, Eurocontrol, and industry representatives in an effort to find alternative solutions, but safety is our priority.

A further update will be posted on the IAA website at 1600 tomorrow - Monday 19th April 2010.
