Traffic Declines Deepen in February

The impact of the economic downturn on air traffic figures worsened in February with air traffic declining in all key areas. This reflected the European trend for the same month. The key results for airspace controlled by the Irish Aviation Authority were;
- En route operations (over flights) were down -4.8% on February 2008.
- North Atlantic HF Flights/ communications showed a similar trend, down -8.1% on the same month last year.
- Commercial air traffic movements at the State airports were down on February 2008 as follows; Dublin -15.6%, Shannon -6.5% and Cork -26.8%.
2009 to the end of February showed the following trends:
- En route (overflights), down by -4.72%
- North Atlantic Communications, down by -6.5%
- Dublincommercial terminal movements, down by-12.1%
- Cork commercial terminal movements, down by -23.5%
- Shannon commercial terminal movements down by -8.1%
- Combined commercial movements for the three State airports were down -13.1%
